Advent 2020

This Christmas season will be more like the first Christmas than any our generation (and probably anyone of the post-WWII generation) has ever experienced, in terms of it taking place right in the middle of widespread upheaval, hardship, and uncertainty. From a human perspective the circumstances surrounding Jesus' birth were haphazard, unfair and very imperfect; yet this was exactly where God chose for his son to be born. These circumstances were not thrust upon God, he chose them. We prefer to celebrate a Christmas filled with excitement, loved ones, nostalgia - which are all good things - but our idea of what is significant about Christmas is very different from God's - and this year provides us a unique opportunity to experience this from God's perspective.
